"Riveting"
Tuesday, 12 March 2002 Got a side plate from Four Horsemen Arms which sells for $250, is 100% completed, and as such, must be shipped to your local FFL holder or gun shop. You'll still have to drill the holes to final size but the locations are marked by smaller holes. This in my opinion leaves you more options to finish the receiver.
Wednesday, 3 April 2002 These are the markings on the plate. Took off the serial number in the photo, there really is one on the plate. You'll also notice the tool marks left on the plate. Anyone got a fix let me know (salt6@sbcglobal.net).
I assembled the receiver and drilled the top cover hole. Then installed the top cover and the bolts. It worked! I decided to try and do a rivet to see if I could do rivets. I drilled the first rivet hole after lining everything up on the pintle hole. Also did the relief on the opposite side. I took a piece of 3/16 steel rod heated it on the stove inserted it into the holes and smacked it with my big hammer. Had a little to much rod so I cut it back some and continued. The above pictures show my results. This photo shows the groove I had to open up a little. Took a couple of hours in front of the TV with a file. Filed a little and test fitted until it worked.
Tuesday, 9 April 2002 OK got home from work early today and decided to make the rivets for the truion and cartridge stop. Use a Unimate mini lathe to turn down some steel rod from the mega lumber store. Decided to go ahead and do the cartridge stop tonight. Things are coming along. What it looks like when all the parts are put together.
Wednesday, 10 April 2002 Picked up some button head socket screws for the bottom plate. Still have to trim them to length. I'll cut them so that they will be below the surface of the side plate interior and then wield them in place. I'll also have the socket head filled with wield so that they look like rivets.
Monday, 20 May 2002 Installed first truion rivet. Heated it to red hot pushed it into the hole and beat it with my big hammer, ground it down and finished with a couple of files. Looks good.
Wednesday, 22 May 2002 Installed the second and third truion rivets. Same as above. Still looks good.
Friday, 24 May 2002 Installed one rivet on the top plate.
Sunday, 26 May 2002 Installed the rear two top plate rivets. Had to turn them out of some steel rod and flatten one side of the head to clear the top plate. Then made a bucking bar out of some larger steel rod.
